①A terrible earthquake, measuring at 8.0Ms, struck Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />China on May 12th, 2008. ② Being the strongest and deadliest earthquake to hi China since the 1976 Tangshan earthquake, it was felt as far away as Beijing, which is 1,500 kilometers away and Shanghai, 1,700 kilometers away, causing 69,197 people to be confirmed dead, 374,176 injured, and 18,340 listed as missing. ③ A great number of houses and buildings were destroyed, leaving as many as 10,000,000 people homeless and there were hill slides, with roads blocked as well as water supply, electricity and telecommunication cut off.④ People in the earthquake-hit areas are suffering greatly, so the Students’ Union calls on us to donate a little money for the people there. ⑤ In my opinion, this is what we can to help those suffering even though we can not stop such natural disasters.
